Who I Am
I'm a PhD researcher based at the University of Plymouth, south west England, UK. I'm currently working on the influence of waste water on environmental microplastics and previous to this I was quantifying environmental microplastics in coastal and oceanic regions. I am a lover of the outdoors from beaches to mountains. Row competitive fixed seat traditional rowing here in the south west and most of all I love walking my border collie.
MY RESEARCH
Sources and impacts of marine microplastics
MICROPLASTIC INGESTION IN FISH LARVAE
2016
First study identifying ingestion of micropalstics in wild mesozooplankton. Waterborne microplastics documented alongside ingestion rates for fish larvae in the western English Channel. Published in Environmental Pollution Journal Volume 226, July 2017, Pages 250-259.
CONCENTRATIONS OF MICROPLASTICS IN SURFACE WATERS FROM THE UK TO THE SOUTHERN OCEAN AND ASSOCIATED ZOOPLANKTON INGESTION
2016-present
8000 miles. 100 degrees of latitude. 8 weeks at sea.
Scientific cruise on board RRS James Clark Ross from the UK to the Falkland Island via South Georgia. Quantifying and characterising surface microplastics and investigating ingestion in zooplankton species.
